Suffering from hyperthyroidism is no fun.

Pardon me. As though suffering from other diseases there is fun at all? :P

Having eye proptosis, make my eyes pop out, need no cosmetic tools to make my eyes bigger.

At times, I have been called a pug. The photo above says it all. :P

If only you mean that I look as cute as the pug, it is less offensive to call me 'pug'.

But what if you mean otherwise...

Just do not wish to know. :P

Reliving childhood memories :)

Long time ago, this restaurant was previously known as fisherman's pub.

There was even live band, as far as I can remember.

But, having the name changed slightly, does not have anything to do with the quintessential flavors of this true blue exotic Sarawakian dishes served in this restaurant.

Still rocking as ever :)

If you are looking for authentic Sarawakian dishes in Sibu, this is a must-go place, no pork is served.

First dish: keropok appetizer.

The keropok is made from fish or prawn paste, dried, and deep fried to produce that airy and crispy crackers.

Next is the signature dish of this restaurant. This type of shellfish is known locally as lokan.

This dish was prepared differently, and you will be pleasantly surprised once you pry open this shellfish.

There is a medley of meat and flavors in the lokan. In short, the lokan is stuffed with fillings, I could taste onion, fish paste, and a medley of spices. Lovely.

Not to be missed, is the wild fern paku simmered in coconut milk.

Oh! This reminds me of how my late grandmother had always made this dish to perfection.

From the grinding of spices, dried shrimps and a splash of fresh coconut milk.

Very good.

Next. Lamb cutlets.

Whoah. Out of the world! Eh, mind you. RM12 per piece!

The lamb cutlets were very juicy, tender served with mint sauce and the other, homemade sauce which I could not remember. (Sorry, I had to struggle with my very severe memory loss).

Awesomeness :) I can only have it in my dream, period. Till I get back home again.

Ah, we have another wild fern entry again, after the stint with paku. This is midin, the crunchier counterpart of paku, different taste, and if you are not local, you should try this too.

This one is stir-fried with sambal belachan (shrimp paste based ground spices).

I have nothing to complain about this dish. RM18, the pork is juicy, crispy, like how it should be.

If you do not like mayonnaise, then opt for garlic sauce. Do tell them when you place your order.

There is something else also worth salivating, but no photo. Too hungry! :)

I am not working due to my hyperthyroid illness, at the age of 28.

Plus, I am in the midst of completing my post-graduate study, penniless as can be, without scholarship, and relying on my parents and a good samaritan for $$$ for my medicine and my food bill.

A hyperthyroid patient eats a lot, do you know? :(

This place is very beautiful, and slightly dimmed, Chinese restaurant.

For those who walk all the way to Desa Sri Hartamas to have Chinese food, there is a consolation for you :)

The braised peanuts served before the meal, was exceptionally good.

The right amount of saltiness, and the smoky after-taste, also, peanut was very soft.

Well, if you are not big eater such as me, you cannot complain.

And my order, Ipoh koay teow (rice flat noodles) with steamed chicken.

Am I steamed yet?

Halfway there.

The steamed chicken was very well presented.

In fact, it made the diners at the next table staring at it all the time.

Very impolite. Should you want to know, you could just have asked me, and I would happily tell you what dish this is. As simple as that.

The steamed chicken was excellent in flavor, even the beansprouts had the crunchiness and no funky after - taste.

However, to my dismay, the steamed chicken was not thoroughly cooked.

There were pinkish meat all over, which, suppressed my appetite almost immediately.

I guess there were still some hiccups here and there in this restaurant, as it was newly - opened.

But having said that, the minced meat with rice, the meat was thoroughly cooked.

Next.

The ginger and chili, especially the chili, was a bit too little to go with the huge serving of steamed chicken.

Oh by the way, should you order Chinese tea, do ask the server first.

I ordered one cup of Chinese tea, but came one huge pot of tea, mamamia...

The tea was enough for a good company of 6 people. :P

I ordered a durian pancake too.

But they accidentally forgot to key in my order.

Sigh...

Nevertheless, overall, this place is a must - try, if you are into Chinese food.

Maybe by now, things have improved way than before, you never know :)

Now, you can have a variety of sushi as well, apart from ramen and don.

This is the perfect place to celebrate Christmas.

Need not roast turkey and lamb in your kitchen.

And fret not about wine. They do have Argentina Malbec.

The perfect pairing for all the barbecue meat you are going to savor here!

The buffet dinner started off with a bun, and yikes, a knife in the bun!

Bun was superb! The accompanying butter... is from Lurpak!

I am impressed already.

I tell you, I am no stranger in the buffet scene.

The happy girl is more than happy to help herself to the plethora of food served!

Very succulent, very fresh. No icy after-taste from thawing in the microwave.

I usually make my own roast lamb, and this one really knock me off big time!

REALLY GOOD.

I never thought there is greater tasting chicken wings than the ones in Peach Garden Jalan Song.

This is! I cannot believe chicken wings can be this succulent and leaving this smoky after taste.

Bagus to the max! Bagus is a Malay word that means very good!

I thick - faced-ly asked, if I can take a photo of the meat.

The very nice server actually allows me to do so. ;)

Siao Kii. (Crazy already in Hokkien).

Tender and juicy, again.

I am singing a repertoire.

Next is roast beef.

Slow roast. Slightly chewy, but flavor wise, is amazing.

Hola! Mussels!

Special request from the Diva. Round 2, with another 4. I devour 5 mussels in a night.

Cooked to perfection. Not rubbery at all.

Here is the wine I am talking about.

Argentina Malbec, not!

Sorry, I have a bit of memory loss. They do have Argentina Malbec, but I forgot I ordered Cabernet Sauvignon instead.

This one below is steak.

The medium steak, with a hint of pinkish hue in the center.

Again, is very good. In fact, is the best steak I have tasted in Kuching.

Authentic Sibu Foochow Stir-Fried Noodles at Rong Rong Seafood and Cafe, Sibu

Hm...I am from Sibu myself.

I find it rather amusing that all the al-fresco eateries in Sibu is called Cafe.

Maybe Sarawak has been under the governance of the British colonial, as you don't find this anywhere else in the Peninsular or you call it, the continental part of Malaysia.

Let's get down to food talk, shall we?

This is, authentic Sibu old-fashion Foochow stir-fried noodles.

What a mouthful eh?

The noodles in the above picture is not of ordinary noodles. It is called, Hung ngan, or Hungan, Hoong ngang;

whatever. So long as you pronounce it right, and you are on the right track.

If, you should not find any words to order somehow, Bahasa Melayu always works wonders in this small town :)

You say: Hoon ngan goreng kering dengan hati babi

Note that.

The noodles, is by far, the tastiest Foochow-style noodles I have tasted.

The slightly-charred noodles from wok searing, the aromatic Foochow red wine (very generous amount), also, lots and super lots of shredded pork and liver. ooolala~

Now you tell me, why am I so excited to go back to my small town each time I do have a holiday :)

Ah, this is the cafe.

It is very near Kingwood Hotel.

In fact, it is just behind Kawan Hotel.

And it is just opposite Jing Xi Lou, the famous Chinese restaurant where weddings and anniversaries are a must to be held at this restaurant.

Now, can you understand my twisted mind giving you all these crazy directions?

You might not be able to see this place from the main road of Jalan Kiara, but that doesn't give you any reason not to find this place, right?

At the main road of Jalan Kiara, you will see McDonald's on your right. Keep walking, and you will see Starbucks on your left and Secret Recipe on your right.

Keep on walking to the end, you need to cross a tiny road, with cars passing by occasionally, and you will see Maybank ATM. To your left, is Pedro Espresso.


	Smoking hot!

If you are a smoker, this is a brownie point for you. Malboro is served as well.

If you are not a smoker, there are other brownie points in this cafe.

A lot of good reads being displayed, so you can let your mind wander a bit while you enjoy your cuppa.

The most important thing about a cafe is about being neat, clean and tidy.

And this place says it all.

The first drink I introduce to you, is Cafe Latte Cold.

It comes in unsweetened, there is a sugar syrup bottle where you can adjust sweetness in accordance to your taste.

I say, it is better than the Seattle coffee company with the mermaid.

But, don't take my word. You just have to try it for yourself.

Tasting is believing.

And for a frugal drinker me who loves cheap and good eats and drinks, this latte doesn't cost a bomb as other cafes do.

You do get back some change after paying RM10.

Cold Latte, Pedro Espresso

Next is, Cappuccino, Cold.

This is not for you, if you don't drink strong coffee.

This is my old time favorite :) Best served with, KoKo Krunch.

Very aromatic, with smoky after taste.

What is KoKo Krunch, you may ask...it is chocolate cereal produced by Nestle.

I may always be under - dressed for all these fanciful places, not that I like, but I am suffering from thyroid, I have pain from head to toe, I can't be dressed to the nines at all times eh? :)

But that, doesn't mean that I deserve to be treated as invisible being, mind you, I did the ordering.

Food comes with a 10% service tax and 6% GST, in total, 16% additional charge.

If you are just like me, spinning my head on where to eat daily.

Here's a good place to try, only if you are around BDC area.

Fret not, if you are not.

You can always come by to try, as I passed by this place several times, and it opens even during weekends.

There is an array of Western food, but being the Chinese girl that I am, rice is a must - have during lunch.

I ordered, nasi lemak with curry chicken.

Though there is no lemak in the rice (as in no coconut milk), it is, I must say, a healthier option.

Nevertheless, this liberalized nasi lemak does not lack of the essential flavors of the sambal.

Value for money, great taste, good for economical - declining person such as me.

This place is located next to Bella Italia,opposite Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Kuching.

Your Ultimate Guide on How to Open a Durian

To eat? Or not to eat?

To love or not to love?

Durian is indeed, a love/hate relationship for everyone.

You either, love it, or hate it.

There is no in-between. Like it or not, indirectly or directly, or howsoever, you might need to deal with durian someday.

Let me show you, how to open a durian with success without injuring yourself.

First prepare yourself some hand towel and a screwdriver.

These are the durians purchased by Mr Soprano.

First, find the bottom of the durian.

Position the screwdriver on the bottom of the durian.


Poke the bottom of the durian with the screwdriver.

Pry the durian open with the screwdriver. However, I advise you to NOT use bare hand to hold the durian. This is done by a professional. Unless you consider yourself one, you can do it sans towel.

With both hands, insert both thumbs in the cavity, and forcefully but slowly pull it apart. Again, use a hand towel to do so.

Voila :)


Further pry open all the sides, to ensure no hidden durian in the rubbish bin later.


Employ a durian connoisseur to try out the durian. Mine is Mr Soprano.

These mooncakes are very basic. Just pure lotus paste with egg yolks.

Only applies if you love egg yolks. Not everyone does.

And Mei Xin mooncakes, they ensure the freshest and best of the best egg yolks, needless to say, the whole mooncake is totally superb, from skin to the filling.

The name of this place is called Li Yuan.

Early bird catches the laksa.

But then again, it is so good, it may motivate you to wake up early.

I stumble upon this place by accident.

Do you know Central Market in KL?

There is Pasar Seni there, with stalls selling mementos. Just right behind these stalls, same row as KFC, there is this fantastic restaurant by the name of Yusoof dan Zakhir Sdn. Bhd.

They serve very fantastic tandoori chicken and naan bread.

Gorgeous.

Best of the best, and the great thing is that, it is affordable!

I am lost for my vocabulary.

And if you don't fancy meat, falafel is a pita wrapped chickpeas filling.

It is a sin not to try.

Hummus! Served with soft freshly baked pita.

Every mouthful has got exploding sensation on the tastebuds.

Unless you have got numb tastebuds, that is.

Lamb shish kebab.

I love it, to the max.

Even, I might even day - dream about this.

I have been blogging for several years now in a row, but I have yet to introduce kompia to you, a Foochow staple food.

It is bagel, with a touch of Foochow.

This is the best kompia in Sibu.

Seng Kee Agency, at Market Road, Sibu.

You can see how it is made. Open kitchen concept existed long ago, in Sibu.

The picture below on the bottom right, is the sister of kompia. It is called Jun Nee Piang in Foochow. A sweeter and softer counterpart of kompia.

By the way, the images were taken at the back of this shop. You may go behind, for more interesting stuff.

If you still do not know where it is, it is same row as the oldest Takiong here in Sibu.

It is so good, I know of a German guy who bought like heaps of this back to Kuching and freeze them.

Well, sorry that I have been missing in action for so long.

Thanks to Streamyx, I could not have decent internet connection in Jalan Pisang since May 18.

During Gawai, I was back in Sibu for a while, at least.

So here's to Sibu food from the Diva :)

Sibu is an early town. So, thinking of a place for decent supper is quite hard.

But, thanks to Tanahmas hotel, you can enjoy food untill 1 am in the morning, at least, I was told.

Peppers Cafe, Tanahmas.

This is Helen's Temptation.

The picture itself describes how good it was.

So go ahead, order this.

The ice cream was smooth, drizzled with strawberry sauce.

Aha :) this one is a must try. A classic Sibu kopitiam dessert! This dessert is dying slowly and going to extinct.

Thanks to Tanahmas, they introduced Jelly Pisang in the menu!

Literally, it means, banana jelly.

I won't tell you much about this. You just have to try it for yourself.

Next! The famous char koay teow. Once upon a time, there was a famous chef by the name of Ricky attached to Tanahmas for a while. He was notorious for his char koay teow, and hence, he imparted his knowledge on them. To this very day, the char koay teow still taste awesome.

Caesar salad was okay.

What I love about this cafe is this. Hahaha ;)

Superb noodles.

And swanky outlet.

Noodles are springy, but not hard, not too chewy either. Perfect 10.

There is no Sushi King in Sibu. as of April 2011.

But, we have our local home-grown sushi place.

Sushi Tie, it is.

Awards time. This is the best of the best. Could be the best one in terms of price and taste in Sarawak.

Let me tell you what to order.

1. Baby fish maki

It is rice wrapped crunchy fried local anchovies, a little bit salty.

2. Spider temaki

The best spider maki I ever had.

Deep fried soft shell crab wrapped with sushi rice and seaweed (nori).

The soft shell crab is fried prior to wrapping. Unlike the one in Sushi King, the soft shell crab was deep fried also, but it was then stored in fridge, hence you are eating cold deep fried soft shell crab temaki in Sushi King.

No, this one here in Sushi Tie is completely different.

Served warm.

3. Sausage maki

Sausage wrapped rice and seaweed.

I love the simplicity of this one.

Simple yet flavorful with the sausage.

4. Inari Soba

Ah, this one is fairly interesting indeed. Sweet beancurd, filled with cold soba mixed with mayonnaise and sweet corn kernels, and a surprise surimi (crab meat) at the bottom of the sweet bean curd. It is then topped with roe.

This is a must try.

5. Inari Chuka Wakame

Seasoned seaweed with sushi rice contained in a sweet bean curd.

Chuka wakame is not for everyone. Acquired taste.

I like it a lot somehow.

6. Egg Mayo

Egg mayonnaise combo in sushi rice wrapped with seaweed, topped with roe.

This is my firm favorite.

I always make a point to come to this place whenever I am back in town.

KL is a food haven.

Hence, I cannot say, which one of whatever I am having is the best.

Rather, I would put it this way. Very Good Ramen, instead of Best Ramen.

There you go. Very awesome Kimuchi Ramen in KL!

The texture of the ramen is just nice. So right. No errors.

Just al dente! Infused in Kimchi soup and sliced pork, I have to have this again soon!

The outlet is tucked in a corner inside Shoplex.

This place is not visible from the main road.

When you see Tun Jugah on your right, the immediate turn left on the next turning after traffic light, go straight, and when you reached the junction and turn right. There.

I am not good in tech stuff, else, I would be posting up the map where this is.

This is far different from the famous Ah Mui beef noodles.

Definitely not your usual sort of beef noodles in Kuching.

However, I can assure you that, this dish brings satisfaction to your tongue and stomach.

Full of flavors.

If you're VIP just like me, you get this special bowl of beef broth.

To let you know more about me:

I am very fond of teh c peng, which is, milk tea in local dialect.

Because of my very horrible sinus problem, I am banned from having this simple pleasure.

But since the weather is pretty dry here in Sibu and rarely (or zero chance) giving me that sinus problem, I have decided to glug glug some teh c peng before I leave this dear town of mine.

Ah...and to happily let you all know, I have discovered the best teh c peng place in Sibu.

It is just behind Farley Cafe.

And I give my nod to the kampua!

Kampua is not my most sought after food, but at this place, oh...it gives me that craze!

Even though this might be just mee pok (flat noodles) and not that authentic kampua noodles, that taste really rocks my tastebuds.

Whenever I am here, I make it a point to have not only one, but TWO glasses of teh halia.

Ah, not forgetting, the Indian rojak.

Which is a medley of vegetables and fritters served with thick peanut-based sauce.

This one earn the diva's nod. :)

I have always said, I wanted to come back to this place for a wholesome of pork goodness.

Yes, I've finally made a point to come to this place.

My previous posts are here and here.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed very much.

I love the platter of bratwursts, succulent, so good, it is an out of the world experience. And also for drinkers, this place serves a variety of top-notch beers.

Lovely. What are sausages without German beers?

But, I have to say what I have to say.

There is room for improvement for crispy pork. Too fat for my liking. Other than that, all is fine.

Ah...this is my favorite. Sambal seafood kampua in sizzling hot plate.

If you have no clue what kampua is all about, it is actually noodles, Foochow noodles to be exact. Noodles do have names. For example, Spaghetti, Macaroni, and there you go, Kampua.

Sizzling hot plate beef kampua, by the way, the beef is flown in all the way from Australia.

Hmm...convinced yet? I have tried quite a number of dishes here, and the must try, is the sizzling hot plate beef kampua.

Another version of liberalized kampua as well.

Ah, :) lovely.

It is so good, that I must come by this place whenever I am back in town.

Ah, I haven't been blogging for a while, left alone about Sibu food!

Shame on me :)

But after all these lavish eats, I can just say, my taste buds have transformed into a rather flamboyant one, at least, or so I think :)

This is at, somewhere behind Rejang Medical, this place is so jammed packed in the morning!

Mainly because of the stir-fried belacan bee hoon, literally means, stir fried vermicelli with fermented shrimp paste.

So uncontrollable is my drool, even as I mention it now.

:)

Next is the best kueh chap, also, can be found in this coffeeshop. The kueh chap is so lovely, it is one out of the world experience! It might be the best in Sarawak too. Better than the kueh chap in Carpenter Street Kuching!

Kueh chap is similar to lagsana in shape, being slightly smaller in shape, and is cooked in a pork broth seasoned with soy sauce, served with all the spare parts, namely intestines, liver, meat, etc.

I have been down with vertigo and sinusitis...for several weeks already, hence the lack of updates.

But I managed to sneak into the Spring and have a proper lunch last Friday.

I am very blessed that a lot of people bought me meals of late.

This is Tsin Chui Xiang, in Petanak area, behind HSBC and Kenny Sia's Level Up Fitness.

Most Chinese restaurants are not single-diner friendly.

Dishes are meant to be shared with at least 3 people.

And this place is also one of them.

Let me show you the swanky interior of this modern Chinese restaurant :)

Surprisingly, you can get very lovely egg tarts here :)

Ahh :) just look at this baby.

Then came my roasted pork rice.

Crispy, but a bit too much of salt perhaps?

Roasted duck noodles. I am not a fan of duck. Don't ask.

Braised chicken feet with peanuts.

The right taste and texture.

I think, should you patronize this place, try to bring more people.

Chinese are just like Italians.

Food portions are always meant for many people.

It is a haven for rock climbers.

This is Mel, a very experienced rock climber.

Then come Damien, also another extreme sports enthusiast.

And this... ladies and gentlemen,

our lady rock climber all the way from Singapore.

And this, is a man from Germany.

Coincidently, he attends the same dance studio as I do.

Can you imagine, a man who is both capable of moving his feet daintily during waltz and this, hoisting himself up during rock climbing?

I am very impressed with the thandoori chicken.

Tender, juicy, succulent, the right amount of spices.

I will not go to 7th mile for thandoori anymore. This one champs :)

Mint sauce to go with the thandoori.

Thandoori and naan are match made in heaven.

Hence, I ordered naan to go with the thandoori.

If you are not well-versed with Indian food, naan is a type of baked bread /roti canai. How it is made is very similar to Foochow Kompia.

Bindi Masala.

Ladies finger cooked in a medley of spices and curry broth.

Lovely. Simply lovely.

This is the cheese naan.

Located just beside MAS office in Kuching, you should really try it out.

I would say, this is the best north indian fare you can get in Kuching.

My fav, chicken hor fun, it's flat noodles simmered in chicken broth, served with shreds of chicken and several pieces of shrimps.

It is just what you need on a rainy day.

This is another, fav of me and my housemate.

Toasts served with curry potatoes.

Caution: not for the faint-hearted.

I am one happy girl today :)

So happy, because my housemate bought me a mind-blowing dinner at Chef at Home, Hui Sing Garden, Kuching.

It is a residential house cum restaurant.

Al-fresco.

This is the grilled mushroom salad with balsamic vinegar.

They are very generous with the balsamic vinegar, totally loving it.

Just look at it. Mind blowing. Poof.

Have your mind gone poof yet? The mushrooms are thick, juicy, it's just out of the world.

Not to mention, the cheese blends in just right.

Next, is lemongrass infused lamb shoulder.

This is a fusion dish.

Next, is grilled chicken breast with cream mushroom sauce.

The chicken is tender, succulent, the sauce is right, not too runny, not too thick, great aroma!

And also, the green peas, no funky frozen taste.

The molten chocolate cake, dubbed as The Melting Moment.

This is the only disappointment. My housemate is a regular at this place.

So far, 2 out of 3 times, chocolate did not flow out from the cake.

Not only that, the cake is a bit too chewy, because they overbeat the cake mixture.

A very passionate chef (me) is talking.

The overall food is superb, except for the dessert.

I would love to come back, to satiate my tastebuds.

Kueh Chap Rendezvous at No 6 Kopitiam, Kuching

Kueh Chap is a delicacy, among Kuching people.

This is one of the things I hate to say, Kueh Chap in Kuching champs over the one in Sibu.

What is Kueh Chap, to be exact.

Take a look.

A bowl of Chinese clear stew, infused with soy sauce and star anise, and served with paper-thin rice noodles and pig innards.

Slurps. This is the best kueh chap in Kuching.

I have tried numerous places, but this one champs. :)

Ease of parking, not to mention.

Lovely milk tea at this coffee shop too.

Carpenter Street Lao Ya Keng Pork Satay and Fish Ball Soup

There's a crazily fabulous eatery tucked in the memory lane of Kuching, Carpenter Street aptly called Lao Ya Keng.

It literally means Room for Chinese Deity, but many are confused, thinking that it means the other way round: The Lousy Room.

Let's just blame it on phonetics, shall we?

Visual feasting begins.

The famous fish + meat balls soup, sans the vermicelli.

Be sure to be there around 2 pm, before 3 pm.

Else, you would end up in disappointment.

Lovely, definitely lovely. The best of the best I have tasted in Kuching.

The soup is as clear as French consomme, a slight tinge of sweetness from the flavorful fish and meat balls.

Fish and meat balls wise, are firm to chew. At certain outlets, some vendors tend to mix in plenty of flour in the making of fish or meat balls, hence the artificial and very funky taste.

That's why my golden taste buds give the nod of approval.

Yes, I have superior tongue that is able to nod.

Best pork satay in Kuching.

Tender, succulent, just the right amount of spices in the marinade.

The accompanying satay sauce is equally good too.

Note: This eatery is closed on the 1st and 15th day every month of Chinese Lunar calendar.

Best Roasted Peanuts

During my 26 years of living and still on-going, I have had tried an array of brands, for roasted peanuts.

I have tried almost every single brand of roasted peanuts that you can find in the supermarket.

But, this one has definitely caught my tastebuds, and I fall head over heels over this one!

Roasted Peanuts, served only on Malaysia Airlines.

Available at approximately 30, 000 feet from ground level.

Especially the Sarawak sector, specifically, Kuching-Sibu or Sibu-Kuching via Boeing.

Crunchy, fragrant, not overly salty, and most important of all, ladies and gentlemen, no signs of rancid!

Aunthentic Hakka Rice in Kuching (Lui Cha)

To start off, Chinese is very diversified.

There is Hakka, Hokkien, Teochew, Foochow, Cantonese, just to name a few dialects.

Let's take for example, Hakka. It is further branched out into smaller clans.

For your information, I am Hakka, of Kah-Ying Clan. And oh, we do not have Lui Cha as our dish.

This dish belongs to Hakka of HoPoh Clan.

It is a vegetarian dish, made of rice, garnished with several types of vegetables, and served with a bowl of soup, made up of a medley of Hakka herbs. It is called Lui Cha, literally means, thunder tea.

And this, is the best lui cha haunt in Kuching, situated at Green road.

It is a nonetheless, very flavorful dish. An acquired taste, I have to say.

I survived on this cheap eat during my days in JB. Cheap and satisfying!

But, this famous outlet in Kuching, has a different twist to the ones I had in Johore Bahru.

At least, no cabbage! :)

Instant Noodles Goes Luxurious

I got a bunch of vege from a good Samaritan :)

So what is Sibu Food Diva capable of doing-

Step by step to luxurious instant noodles:

Boil water (roughly 1.5 cm level of water on a 15cm diameter saucepan), and empty the sachet of seasoning onto the saucepan.

Gently put the noodles in, and let it soak in the shallow level of water, and pry open the two layer of noodles so that every strand of the noodles is soaked in the broth.

Bring the broth to rapid boil and quickly dish out the noodles, but not the broth. The time that the noodles goes into the pot and out must not take any longer than 1 minute.

Next, put in vegetables, thinly sliced meat and lastly, crack an egg. Once the meat is cooked, bring to rapid boil again (this is to ensure the egg is not too raw, you don't want to get Salmonella poisoning, alright)

And, dish out onto the noodles.

Oops, before that. If you are an alcoholic just like me, don't forget the Chinese red wine. Generous amount, please.

By now, your noodles is 100% cooked. The moment you ladle the noodles out from the pot, the noodles are still cooking in the process, due to the heat.

If you've got craving for roti canai, this is the place to be.

This is teh tarik, milk tea which is being poured several times between two canisters at a height, resulting the froth on the tea.

And this one shown in the picture was further topped with ice.

Hmm...our localized frappuccino sans the crushed ice, at discounted price as compared to Starbucks :)

On very hot days, you cannot go wrong with this one! Iced lemon tea.

And this. Is my favorite drink to go with roti canai or just any other Indian fare, ginger milk tea.

Lovely, simply lovely.

Nasi Briyani Ayam Penyet.

oh confusion!

Translation: Beryani infused rice, served with poppadom, dhal based curry, and pickled shreded onions. Ayam penyet literally means mashed chicken, an authentic East Javanese dish, comprised of chicken deep fried and served with crumbles of spices.

An East meets East dish

Indian rojak. A vegetable salad dish, Indian style. Comprising of jicama, beansprouts, beancurd, assorted fritters, and topped with sambal, a spicy condiment.

A typical Indian rojak has got to be peanut based. Slightly sweet and spicy, but not tangy.

This one served here is tangy, and is very hot and spicy! Though it is not authentic Indian rojak, I love how they give this dish a twist.

I thoroughly love this place very much. Very eye-opening experience, especially the interior decoration.

Borneo Seafood at 101 Kuching

I 've always bragged about how I am surrounded by glorious food. Ah yes :)

This lovely seafood joint is located at 101 Kuching, somewhere near Choice Premier, or rather, behind Choice Premier.

If you're short of cash anyhow, this stall actually accepts plastic!

They accept both MasterCard and Visa. :)

To my blog readers who are not local, this is a type of edible fern, found in Sarawak.

It tastes good even with just garlic and a dash of Chinese wine.

The fern is known as Midin among us locals.

Texture wise, the fern is crunchy to bite.

Sambal sotong (calamari stir-fried witha medley of spices, consisting of ground shallots, chili, dried shrimps)

Thumbs up for the sambal sotong here, not overly cooked and is just al dente!

Steamed prawns and fish fillet with Chinese rice wine. The ultimate star of the mo.

I had this dish two times in a week, the latter, additional fish maw is added in there too.

Heavenly.

If you're still in the dark where this place is, give me a buzz and buy me dinner as well ;P

Tea Time at Boon Khai Delights, 101 Kuching

I've heard a lot about this place, rantings and ravings alike.

Sibu Food Diva has to step in to justify then.

The above is ABC with peppermint choc ice-cream.

Not too sweet, but utterly sinful with the big bowl of coconut milk.

Guess I have to climb the stairs more often!

Below is cucur campur (assorted fritters), consisting of prawn fritter, fried beancurd, yam fritter, and I don't know what else.

It's a bit bland, the accompanying chili was just as bad!

Ahh, this is rojak, priced at RM5. lovely aroma, taste wise... again, there is something lacking in there.

It's a good place to hang out and to have afternoon tea with friends, but the downside is that, this outlet is self-service.

Just a bit wayward.

Ah Bui Restaurant

I've always loved to drop by at this place whenever I'm back in town.

Not to mention, I get my VIP treatment here too.

I've blogged about this place before, serving the best and value for money steamboat, sans Ajinomoto (monosodium glutamate) in the broth.

This is the proprietor of the shop.

He has a ginormous tattoo on his back, depicting a tiger descending from mountain.

Don't think otherwise when I said that.

Sometimes, he was shirtless when he cooked.

Ahh, this is one of his signature, stir-fried (dry) noodles with fish.

His sister in law manned the kampua stall, the sinful yet fulfilling pien sit/ wan tan/ kiaw.

Chinese ravioli, that's what I call it.

Sans the consomme.

The traditional Foochow tangy vegetable soup with fish. Zhao chai hu ngan.

Generous amount of ginger, rice wine.

Aaah :) sheer tummy pampering session!

Sze Chuan Noodles. Too salty, noodles overcooked, too slimy.

Hmm... I am rather speechless when it comes to this one.

Would you have a slice of bread, untoasted, with peanut butter slather on top, with strawberry ice-cream surrounded with whipped cream?

No wonder my neighbour was having a hard time to finish this!

But then again, hats off to the lovely presentation.

Despite the less than average review, I'd love to come back to this place again, to try out the extensive menu.

Sibu Food Diva Conquers Jangkar Waterfall

It never crosses my mind, that I would embark on an adventure, so impromptu, yet so risky.

This is at Jangkar Waterfall, somewhere in Lundu, roughly 2 hours drive from Kuching City.

And another 1km of jungle trekking through the uphill steep slope, and another 1 km of wadding through the strong current while hanging on to my dear life while gripping the slippery moss-covered ginormous rocks.

The night before this trip, my friend said, "be prepared".

That's all?

Indeed, yes.

Thanks to Celcom Broadband, line was absolutely stunning, to the extent I could not even load my browser or even MSN.

Basically, I was in the dark about this place.

Absolutely no idea at all.

To be honest, I knelt down and prayed.

For proper guidance : as I fear there is none.

For strength: as I was having my 1st day of menstruation, and the adventure would be on my 2nd day of menstruation, meaning, the worst of its worst.

For good weather: I am aware that the vicinity of waterfall is tend to be slippery, coupled with strong currents. It could mean sheer brush with death. I am definitely not exaggerating. This is very true. Anyways, I still have a lot to do in life. I have yet to graduate with my PhD, and have yet to get married, and be a mother.

So off I went with my back pack filled with necessities.

Dressed in my rugged Levi's and Ipanema by Gisele Bunchen.

I am very fortunate that my Levi's protected me from scratches, but nevertheless, I still succumbed to bruises and mini blood suckers.

All through this kamikaze adventure, my friend helped me all the way.

All the way.

He catches me when I fall.

I gave up several times when I fell and almost injured myself while wadding through the waist-deep strong current, and the need to climb up the ginormous slippery rocks.

And I fear water.

The fact is, I have never gotten over my potamophobia.

But then again.

You don't know what does it feel like, to have reached the top.

The ultimate satisfaction.

If I can do this, even when I'm at my weakest ( having menstruation and climbing the huge rocks and all, fancy that! with constant menstrual cramps creeping up my toes and legs).

There is nothing which is quite impossible to me anymore.

Notice that sort of optimism in me?

Right now, I just want to rest my arms. I suspected torn ligaments in my right shoulder.

Expected recovery in 8 weeks' time.

The pain pierced through me from my mid arm right up to my neck.

Only God knows the excruciating pain I'm having at the moment.

I was hanging on to my friend's grip, when I suddenly fell and slipped due to the slippery rocks.

I winced and get teary-eyed whenever I accidentally swing my arm a wee bit too hard.

But this pain has taught me or rather remind me that I do not walk alone in this life.

As what as I have always perceived to be.

This is by far, the best kolo mee you can find in Sibu.

Everything is so right about the texture and the taste.

I would give a 10 out of 10 for this.

The only disappointment is the fried chicken.
