Zheng Jih Red Wine Chicken Soup Revisited

Mr and Mrs Soprano had to drag me out from my bed...

to this place.

Zheng Jih Nice Food Hall. Pardon the choice of words.

Even Ms Soprano isn't quite awake yet.

Now you know why Mr Soprano is very excited?

If you don't feel excited looking at this pic right below, then it's evident that you're no food enthusiast.

The flavors are gorgeously paired; flat noodles firm to bite, with generous amount of garlic, spring onion, deep fried shallots and a hint of pork lard.

That's not it. Noodles has to go hand in hand with the red wine chicken soup below.

Thank you, Mr and Mrs Soprano for the lovely breakfast.

Papa, you're the best. :)

Of Teaah Peaang and Chee Peaang

I do not how this come about.

Teaah Peaang vs. Chee Peaang

This delicacy you are looking at right now, is called Teaah Peaang by the Foochows.

Somehow, somewhere there are people who mistakenly call it Chee Peaang.

I don't know if it actually sounded vulgar to you, but it certainly does to me.

:P

As the word "Chee" actually means woman's genitalia in Foochow and Hokkien.

Would you like to have some teaah peaang or chee peaang?

No. 1 Bestseller Apam Balik in Sibu

The best of the best apam balik (half moon pastry filled with crushed peanut) in Sibu:

is @ Central Market Sibu.

And this is the auntie who makes the lovely apam balik

Hmm... lovely.

The end product of the half moon pastry.

A closer shot.

The pastry is filled with crushed peanuts and sugar, and generous slather of margarine.

The pastry itself is very crispy, and thin enough.

There were several night market traders couldn't get the texture right.

Only this woman does.

And the best part of all, it's directly opposite my dad's shop.

I mean it, directly.

Walk straight, and no turnings from my dad's.

Are you green with envy now?

A Must Go Restaurant in Rejang Park, Sibu

Are you game for happy hours with Sibu Food Diva?

Happy Hours Cafe @ Rejang Park, Sibu.

The Sopranos (Sibu Version 2.1.1)

AKU CINTA SOTONG. ;)

The squids were grilled to perfection with a winning combination: sambal.

Pandan chicken, love the taste, but I find them a bit too small in portion.

Kung pao chicken. Stir-fried chicken with dried chillies and dark soy sauce. Also very nice! Juicy even though deep fried, prior to stir fry.

A typical Foochow soup, eggy sort (tauhudeah).

Beancurd cooked with razor clams soup. Ooo...this is one of the best I've tasted.

Aaah... :) very sorry. A bit too late to snap the pic. The Sopranos are very ferocious people. :)

Grilled spicy fish (ikan bakar). Very good, a must-try. A bit tangy, not too sweet. The stingray was fresh too.

Philippine-style roasted pork leg. This is the culprit that caused me to suffer from knee pain.

Stir-fried water convolvulus (kangkong) with garlic and light soy sauce.

Believe it or not, you have to queue up for this.

Tom yam noodles. Fine or coarse vermicelli, your choice. Personally, there's nothing to blah about. It's an acquired taste, giving the original thai tom yam a different twist, the not so spicy version with addition of coconut milk and...minced pork balls and fish! :P

Why are Sibu people / Rejang Park residents so crazy about this, I think you have to find out your ownself.

Definitely a recommended place for happy hour in Sibu.

Wine is served too.

Good Food @ Channel Road, Sibu

My dad's shop is so strategically located in Sibu, that I need not go very far to savor good food.

Stir-fried noodles from Central Market

Bagels / Kompia

And I wonder if our Minister of Tourism (Sarawak) would like to appoint me as the food ambassador.

The Lam Place Beef Noodles

If you are a beef eater, take note of this place.

The Lam Place Beef Noodles @ Chonglin Park off Tabuan Road.

The one in Jalan Song (behind Starbucks, opposite SCR Xpres) has closed down for a while.

My all time fav is this.

Raw beef and flat noodles in soup. The name is a misnomer, you don't find any uncooked beef strips in your soup.

If you are not convinced, take a closer look.

What's not to love, free flow of fiery hot chili sauce to go with the beef noodles.

This is the dry version.

Raw beef soup with dry flat noodles.

The bland tasting dry koay teow.

Ichiban, baby! :)

I always frequent this place early in the morning before I pop in to uni.

Feel free to say hi! :)

Hak Guan, along the Cold Storage main road

This coffee shop is located along the mainroad leading to Cold Storage, just before the traffic light, on the opposite site of the road.

It is nicknamed the Lorry Driver's Hang Out Place by my auntie, due to the overwhelming lorries parked around this tiny coffee shop early in the morning.

Hak Guan Coffee Shop.

Rather, it feels as though it's owned by the Chungs. with the Guan going on. Hian Guan, Tau Guan, Qing Guan, Qi Guan. haha:) tell me if I've left anybody out.

People lined up for kuey chap.

But I opted for laksa.

Laksa broth was unexceptionally good, but pity, the prawns weren't fresh.

And the fast-selling out vegetarian spring roll

Good, but not my style of popiah.

Meat eater still loves Uncle Joe's popiah @ Kwong Hup Cafe.

Nice or not for the overall kopitiam delicacies, you have to judge it for yourself.
